Yurida Nava
Donald G. Hayes Counselor of the Year Award

Congratulations to Poly’s own Mrs. Nava on being awarded the California Association of School Counselors “Counselor of the Year” award last weekend! We are very proud of Mrs. Nava and happy that she chose Poly as her new home.

From CASC:

Yurida (Yuri) Nava is currently a school counselor at Poly High School in Riverside and has had counseling experience at the elementary, middle and high school levels. At the elementary level, she instituted a counseling advisory panel and started developing a school counseling program following the ASCA National Model. Every fifth grade student was able to complete a graduation post-secondary plan. In addition, Mrs. Nava was instrumental as a school counselor at a private high school in assisting countless students in their efforts in obtaining financial aid as well as securing scholarships through local organizations and individual colleges. Students benefited from her specialized training in trauma crisis and suicide intervention where she served “as both a life-aiding, as well as a life-saving counselor.” She is “the epitome of what a caring, engaged, active, and professional school counselor should be.” Yurida also expects to receive her Ed.D. this December in Educational Psychology. Yuri is well deserving of this year’s Donald G. Hayes Counselor of the Year Award.
